    Food budget

    The charts below show the percentage of their food budget the average family spent on restaurant meals in different years. The graph shows the number of meals eaten in fast food restaurants and sit-down restaurants.

    The percentages of the food spending on restaurant meals versus home cooking are shown in the pie charts.And the line graphs show the number of meals consumed in fast-food and sit-down restaurant.Both data are collected in period of 1970 through 2000.
     
    In 1970, there was a huge difference between budget spent on restaurant meals(10%) and the budget spent on home cooking.For the next decade,the number in percentage of restaurant spending increased slightly to 15%. After that, there was a sharp rise of the food budget spending outside,it had reached 35% in 1990,and finally, 50% in 2000.
     
    In term of the number of meals eaten per year, there was a dramatic increase in the number fast food meals consumed.It began with 20 meals per year in 1970 and rose up to nearly 90 meals per year in 2000, while the sit-down restuarants are grew gradually from 20 meals per year in 1970 up to 50 meals per year in 2000.
